What is Durapost?

DuraPost® is a fence post system that was introduced in the mid-1990s as an alternative to traditional concrete and wooden fence posts. The posts are made using high-quality steel and offer a wide range of complimentary products to complete the overall fence system, including caps, corner posts, gravel boards, and capping rails.

All available products are designed to be compatible with both prefabricated fence panels and close board fencing.

DuraPost® offer these products in a range of colours, anthracite grey, olive grey, sepia brown and galvanised.

In this article, we will be talking through the products DuraPost® offer as well as some other elements of DuraPost®.

What products do DuraPost® do?

Fence post: All available posts come in 4 lengths, 1.8m, 2.4m, 2.7m and 3m where the post is pre-drilled down one side.

The 2.4m post weighs 7.2kg. The overall width of the post is 54mm, with an inside width of 51mm meaning it’s 50% smaller than either concrete or wooden posts. The posts come in all four available colours, anthracite grey, olive grey, sepia brown and galvanised.

Gravel Board: The gravel boards are an extruded composite plastic, solid colour, tongue and groove gravel board. Re-enforcing rods are also available. The rods slide into the gravel board helping to add strength when needing to retain soil.

The sizes come in 3 different lengths, 1.83m, 2.44m and 3m. The boards are 150mm high and 49.5mm wide and weigh 3.4kg.

They can be stacked on top of one another to create a composite fence all while providing protection from ground damp against a timber fence.

Gravel boards come in three colours, anthracite grey, olive grey and sepia brown. The gravel boards are UV stable and have a grain effect.

Post Cap: The post caps are made from steel with a plastic insert that is fixed to the fence post. The post caps are available in four colours: anthracite grey, olive grey, sepia brown and galvanised.

Capping Rail: An extruded aluminium section powder coated comes in three colours, anthracite grey, olive grey and sepia brown.

Available in three lengths, like the gravel board, 1.83m, 2.45m and 3m lengths.

The capping rail is to protect the top of the fence from weather.

Gate/Corner Post: A steel box section comprising of 76mm by 76mm is available in all four colours, anthracite grey, olive grey, sepia brown and galvanised and comes in three lengths, 1.8m, 2.4m and 3m.

The gate/corner post is used with u-channels for corners or hanging gates from.

U-Channel: The cold rolled pre-galvanised u-channel is for use as a wall plate when starting fencing from a wall or when needed for corners and is available in four colours, anthracite grey, olive grey, sepia brown and galvanised.

The same as the post, it is pre-drilled down one side and comes in three lengths, 1.8m, 2.1m and 3m and is normally installed above the ground.

How strong is DuraPost®?

DuraPost® is manufactured in the UK using 100% recycled material from galvanised steel which has been cold rolled. DuraPost® has been tested and is proven to withstand winds of up to 110mph and passes a static load test of 625kg on eight-foot posts.

Not only has it been proven to withstand extreme weather, but it is also very durable, particularly over the conventional post types such as wooden and concrete posts where the lifespan averages 10 and 25 years respectively. DuraPost® is resistant to rot and rust and has a guaranteed life of 15 years for galvanised and 25 years for all colours.

The holes dug for the posts still must be 600mm deep, as per industry standard, however they can be smaller in width allowing a sturdier post as less ground has to be disturbed.

Is DuraPost® easy to install?

Due to DuraPost® lightweight design, it is easier to handle allowing a quicker lift to the fence line, moving, and adjusting the post becomes a lot easier as well as transporting the goods from the supplier to the project in hand.

As also mentioned, the post holes do not need to be dug as big due to the smaller post themselves, saving time.

Due to the pre-drilled post holes, the rails can be lined up quicker and easier.

Is DuraPost® aesthetically pleasing?

DuraPost® sleek and compact design gives it a modern look, while its compatibility with traditional fence materials such as closeboard fencing and panels ensure that it can be integrated into any fencing project.
