A Simple Guide

A step to step guide on manufacturing H/D Tongue and Groove gates

Our Scandinavia Redwood fully framed, ledged and braced Elite Harbury Gates are built for strength, durability and long-lasting performance. Constructed from high-quality, planed 67mm x 95mm timber, these heavy-duty gates feature smooth tongue and groove boards running from top to bottom. Each gate is expertly manufactured in-house by one of our skilled gatemakers, ensuring excellent craftsmanship and attention to detail. All our gates are pressure treated green.

Below is a brief step to step guide on how to manufacture our H/D tongue and groove gates:

Step 1) Start with cutting the framework to length

Step 2) Draw lines on the timber for morticing

Step 3) Plane the framework to size to a 67mm H/D Tongue & Groove gates

Step 4) Mortice out the ends for the cross sections to sit in

Step 5) On to the tenoner to tenor the cross sections to suit our mortice holes

Step 6) Spindle mould the ends to be able to sit the T&G boards in

Step 7) Complete a 45 °C cut on the ends for a decorative finish

Step 8) Squeeze up the framework on our jig

Step 9) Chisel out our ends for the Tongue & Groove boards to sit in

Step 10) Sanding the gate to give a nice smooth finish

Step 11) Cut the 4 x 2 bracing and staple in to strengthen the gate

Step 12) Router the framework for a bevelled decorative finish

Step 13) Cutting and laying the Tongue & Groove boards

Step 14) Nailing the boards and finishing with putting on our gate tag on
